mental modelMental Model is an explanation or representation of a person’s thought processes about the external realities. Mental Models are the basic units that construct a person’s view of the world.

Mental Model helps us to shape our decisions and actions that we make during a particular situation. They define how we will pay attention to and how we approach and solve problems.

Mental Models are tools in your mental arsenal. The more models you have, the more you learn about them the better you will be able to solve your problems.

While thinking about a problem, mental models will provide you a map that you can quickly navigate through and solve your problem.

Mental Models are very addictive, the more you will have in your mind the more things you can build with them, and the more connections they will build among themselves this will build a vast network of ideas and resources inside your mind.

The more you know about mental models the more addictive it becomes, few of the mental models are:

  1. Psychology
  2. Economy
  3. Business
  4. Statistics
  5. Social Sciences
  6. Physics
  7. Decision Making
  8. Engineering
  9. Mathematics
  10. Literature

These are the broader models, we will dig deeper and learn intensively about mental models in our Human Brain category of upcoming articles.

How To Build Mental Models

You don’t have to build all mental models on your own, As Charlie Munger says,

“I believe in the discipline of mastering the best that other people have ever figured out. I don’t believe in just sitting down and trying to dream it all up yourself. Nobody’s that smart.”

Learn from the best that other people have ever figured out, we recently learned about Recency Bias part of Psychology in my previous article, further we will dig deeper and learn about all the mental models in upcoming articles filed under Human Brain Category.
